Holy Cow!

A welcome respite from mall restaurants is the sudden emergence of Happy Cow near the parking lot of my apartment. The owner managed to rehabilitate the abandoned pool in the area and add a restaurant/cafe, right across the Delivery Station of Pizza Hut.

With alcoholic drinks freely served and blatantly marketed in the open air is Indonesia’s proof of moderate adherence to Islam, considering that it has the world’s largest Moslem population.

Naturally, the place isn’t for the faint-hearted nor the hoitty-toitty kind of a toot, but if you’re looking for a relaxing quick fix after office hours and want to avoid the notorious traffic of Jakarta, then this is the place for you, a real semblance of an oasis. Their menu provides an affordably priced set ranging from Indonesian to Western, including an Australian steak. Not bad for less than $10.

But what I find most hilarious about the place, this drinking depot, is their huge printed signage of Reinhold Niebuhr’s Serenity Prayer … which, to those unfamiliar with the glory of liquor, is the adopted motto of Alcoholics Anonymous …

Brilliantly hilarious!
