Ang Galunggong (Round Scad) Ng Pilipinas

By N Mark Castro

A housewife rallied an entire nation with these haunting questions:

“Magkano na ang presyo ng galunggong ngayon? 12 pesos kada kilo na! Paano mabubuhay ang isang payak na pamilya kung kahit sa galunggong lang ay mahirap mabili?”

Rough Translation

“How much is the price of  round scad (galunggong) today? 12 Pesos for each kilo! How can a humble poor family live when they can’t even afford to buy round scad (galunggong).”

The entire nation rallied behind her and believed that there would be a better life ahead.

Since then, the price of round scad (galunggong) had reached the present price of  P114.85 for each kilo. And worse, the government is mulling over banning the fishing of round scad, as reported in the Abante Column of political analyst Chubibo.

What adds salt to a serious wound is that the incumbent president is the son of the late housewife.

Have they ever eaten galunggong?

I can barely picture presidential sister Kris Aquino doing so.

Unless, of course, they pay her for endorsements.
