Nancy Binay: Senator of the Republic of the Philippines
By N Mark Castro
Political Dynasty was one of the main issues lodged against then President Ferdinand E. Marcos. Opposition couldn’t get enough harping about that, including then lawyer-activist Jejomar “Jojo” Binay.
Years later, Jojo Binay would carve his own family a dynasty never before imagined by the Marcoses.
It isn’t really a question whether or not the Binays are better than the Marcoses. All it has shown is that political dynasty is alive and well in the Philippines, despite the provisions in the useless Constitution of the country.
And to add more flavor to the farcical electoral structure of the Philippines, Jojo Binay’s inexperienced daughter will become an elected Senator.
It is not a prediction.
It is not even because of electoral fraud.
It is the way it is.
She has a popular name. She is the daughter of the Vice President. She is the sister of a congresswoman. She is the sister of an incumbent Mayor in the financial capital of the country. And she is the daughter of her mother who was also a former mayor.
In a country of nearly 100 million people and scattered across 7,100 islands, the Binays lord over all the hardwork and intelligence of the voting public.
No one can match their servitude to the country.
They’re better at it than everyone.
After all, everyone else could never stand a chance to try.
And as she continues to refuse to engage other candidates to a debate, despite their invitations, here is Nancy Binay … come election day, she is the Senator of the Republic of the Philippines.
Beh Buti Nga Pilipinas.
