The Weak and Pathetic Jose Angel Honrado
By N Mark Castro
One day, not long from now, I hope that this post would reach you. I hope that when it does, you would hate me from the bottom of your feet, for criticizing you the way that I would, in a place that I chose, because of your insistence to allow a crime before your nose and for being an instrument in covering such stench.
Remember this piece, remember this day, remember this woman.
If it’s something that happened once, we could’ve all believed it.
However, it has happened twice, thrice, and with our Customs Officer suspended for planting such evidence.
Even the entire nation does not believe what the Japanese tourists have allegedly done.
At a time when our international airport has been reeling from the distinction of being one of the worst airports on the planet, with systematic corruption proven time and again, you, a military officer whose education and career have been paid for the citizenry of the Republic, have decided to protect instead not the people but what the entire nation knows as employees with less than sterling records.
You argue that you are constrained to obey the law.
You have spent your years in the country’s premier military school to witness how an entire Philippine Army BROKE the law, DEFIED the Constitution, in order to protect and to serve a much-higher cause: FREEDOM.
You have spent your years in military service knowing how such unconstitutional tool has been used again to eradicate the poison that was Erap, never mind the largest vote in the entire electorate history in recent years to instill him as the President.
No one has been hated, loathed, feared as much as you have.
You make Customs Commissioner Bert Lina look like an amateur and, comparatively speaking, a more likeable human creature than you.
WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
Have you sold so much of your soul to the devil that you can’t comprehend common sense anymore?
Let’s look at your illustrious career.
• Security consultant of President Aquino during the May 10 elections
• Spokesman of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
• Served as aide-d-camp of the late former President Corazon Aquino
So, in other words, all your military training, paid for by the government, was dedicated to the service of the Royal Family?
And that’s how you got your position?
All I can say is that whether the actions of the 56-year old OFW woman is true or not, it is YOUR job to ensure that it was not a planted bullet in light of the ongoing modus operandi of your own officers..
WHAT HAPPENED TO US?
There was a time when we struck down laws because they were immoral. We created laws because they were right. We even broke down laws to ensure our freedom.
And the case of the 56-year old woman was exactly just that. An attempt of unscrupulous officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport under the stewardship of its General Manager, Jose Angel Honrado.
So if you’re telling me that your hands are constrained by the laws then, surely, you’re the most incompetent general in the entire history of the Philippines because you couldn’t tell it a mile away that this was a staged activity — as evidenced by later events, that this was, indeed, an internal mistake of employees that did not know how such impact would be generated.
I am not sorry for you.
I actually hold you accountable.
And in my anger, it is my hope that this post, this blog, would remain for as long as it could telling stories as much as it could to reach as many as could be done.
I hold you responsible, Jose Angel Honrado.
And I hope that your children would one day read how you sold out your fellowman for laws that no one cared about to begin with.
I am not angry at you.
But I do pity you in the most pathetic way out of the soiled career of your military uniform.
I pray that I do not encounter you in Pasay City because, by then, none of your military and pathetic managerial skills could ever be applied.
As you destroyed the life of such a pitiful 56 year old domestic worker, so do I curse upon you a life of ignominy and irrelevance.
